Ellie May Horton
Nordic Network of Disability Researchers (NNDR) annual conference May 2025
Why has this activity been useful for your development or career progression and how this will impact your current or future work?
The conference has been extremely useful for my development and career progression in several ways. Firstly, it has allowed me to present my research to a global audience which has contributed to the development of my presentation skills as well as providing me with an opportunity to gain feedback and promote my work around coproduction of mental health services with autistic people. Developing these skills will enable me to be more confident in future conference presentations which I hope will lead to me successfully gaining employment in research in academia once I have graduated.
Have you learnt new concepts or tools outside of your usual discipline?
Yes. Much of my previous research has been limited to Psychology and education fields but the conference has been instrumental in providing me with knowledge in the disability students field which is an area which I intend to follow in future research. I believe that gaining this additional knowledge with enhance my research further and provide me with additional theoretical frameworks to follow.
Did you identify any opportunities for future collaboration?
Yes, with colleagues from across a number of universities who are undertaking research in my area and I have already been in touch with some of these people. I also co-presented with a colleague from Sheffield Hallam so this has strengthened future opportunities for collaboration.
