Editing, uploading & managing media
This guide explains how to upload, edit and manage media in EchoVideo. It covers how to access and organise your recordings, upload external media, use the editing tools and provides information on the AI-powered tool, AskEcho.
Whether you are creating new content, updating existing recordings or permanently removing content from the platform, this guidance will help you make the most of EchoVideo's media management functions.
When viewing interactive content on this page, such as Scribes, we recommend using the full-screen option for the best viewing experience.

Accessing EchoVideo
We recommend accessing EchoVideo through Moodle. To open EchoVideo, navigate to a Moodle course where the Lecture Capture block has been added and click the Lecture Capture link in the block on the right-hand side of the page. You can also log in directly to EchoVideo, but you must create a separate password first. Visit our Introduction to EchoVideo guide for information on how to access and navigate EchoVideo.
Find and organise your EchoVideo content
Your media content in EchoVideo is found in one of two places: your Library or under the Courses tab.
Library
Your media Library holds all of the media you can view outside of a course, so may contain recordings made using Universal Capture or videos you have uploaded from your computer. It contains both media you own as well as any media that another user has shared with you.
If you use Collections in EchoVideo, you can access them from your Library. Collections are similar to playlists, allowing you to group related videos together in a one collection, even if they are not associated with the same course or module. They are designed as collaborative spaces where users can view, upload, share, and work with media together.
Courses
In general, courses are named after Warwick modules. The course page lists all of the modules which you have been given access to. If you are an editing teacher, course leader or manager on a module course in Moodle and have clicked on the Lecture Capture (EchoVideo) block, you will automatically be given instructor access in EchoVideo.
The hotspots below show how the content is organised within the Courses tab. The image below is best viewed in full screen mode. Click the Fullscreen button in the top right-hand corner to expand it. Click the hotspots for more information on each area.
Sections
Courses are further divided into Sections, which can be created automatically for modules in a particular academic year or added manually for recordings which fall outside of the module sections, for example, a conference or an event. Each section is linked to a term, usually the academic year (such as 2026/27) in which the recordings were made. Terms determine how long recordings are retained, which is typically around four years plus one additional term. A section groups together a series of related recordings. For example, in the image above, all 29 recordings for module ST348 (2025/26) are stored within the same section, providing a single location through Moodle where students and staff can easily access the module's recordings.
Classes
Each section you have access to is divided into Classes. A class is created automatically when you schedule a lecture capture recording or upload media to a section and is added to the class list page. You can think of a class as an individual lecture, teaching session, or recording within a section.
Visit our guidance on Navigating EchoVideo for more details on the Class List.
Managing EchoVideo content
There are different ways to access your media, depending on whether a recording has been published to a module or saved to your personal Library.
We recommend that wherever possible, you access EchoVideo via Moodle. You can get to EchoVideo by clicking on the Lecture Capture block on the right-hand side of a Moodle course where the block has been added.
Visit our Moodle guide on structuring and editing your course to find out how to add a lecture capture block to your Moodle course page.
Recordings made via the automated Lecture Capture service will be added to the relevant module section in EchoVideo and published automatically to Moodle.
The Scribe below shows how you can access your recordings in EchoVideo via your Moodle course page.
Enhance content with AskEcho
Generating chapters
AskEcho is an AI-powered feature in EchoVideo that helps enhance engagement and improve accessibility. One of its features is the ability to automatically generate chapters within your media, breaking recordings into structured, easy-to-navigate sections.
Providing chapters gives recordings a clear structure and makes content easier to navigate. Learners can quickly locate relevant information and revisit key topics.
To generate chapters, you must be the video 'owner' and your media must have a transcript. Once a transcript is available, AskEcho can analyse the content and automatically create chapter breaks, titles and tags based on the topics discussed. For information on automated transcripts, visit our Accessibility and inclusivity guide.
Visit the EchoVideo guide for information and guidance on AskEcho and Generating ChaptersLink opens in a new window.
Please note that currently, Chapters are the only AskEcho feature available in EchoVideo at Warwick, so some of the features are not available while the tool is evaluated, e.g. creation of summaries, quizzes and study cards. Our Scribe shows how to use the AskEcho tool in EchoVideo to generate chapters.
