A biological risk assessment form must be completed and approved before starting new projects or importing new materials. The forms have been recently revised and a companion guidance document has been produced. These new documents can be found here. Please note that depending on the complexity of the project and any need for approval by external authorities, the approval process can take from a couple of weeks to several months.

Updated HSE Approved List

The ACDP (Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens) has recently published an updated ‘approved list’ for biological agents. The list categorises organisms into hazard groups and sets minimum containment levels for the UK, providing critical information when completing biological risk assessments. For information click here
