Information to assist the Shopper, Budget Holder and Specialist Approver determine the appropriate Hazard Levels for requisitions made on behalf of the University. This page also explains what checks should be carried out by both the Budget Holder and the Specialist Approver as part of their responsibilities for managing the introduction of biological materials into the University.

Must have authority to purchase the item following GMBSC approval. To determine the correct Hazard Level has been assigned. To obtain formal assurance through the BSU Laboratory Manager. Budget Holder must be able to demonstrate how they will manage any risks and animal welfare. To ensure that there are local rules in place and that these are adhered to. |
BSU Laboratory Manager to be assigned as Specialist Approver. Where this is not the case, the Specialist Approver must obtain approval from the BSU Laboratory Manager prior to approving the requisition. Specialist Approver to ensrue that the purchases fall under the remit of the GMBSC approval and that the facilites and local rules are sufficient to manage the risks and welfare standards. Additional advice can be sought through the Biosafety Advisor. |
Finance Officers to check that the BSU Laboratory Manager has been involved in the workflow and that they have approved the requisition. |
