How to use a smoke generating wand to check LEV

Conducting monthly checks on local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems is a key line of defence in ensuring that they are working correctly to keep people safe. It is also a requirement under the LEV Policy and associated Code of Practice.

Below is a series of short video clips to demonstrate how to set up and use a smoke-generating wand to check for adequate airflow on a variety of LEV systems, which is one of the required monthly checks.

Written instructions including diagrams are set out in the associated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)Link opens in a new window. This document has been written to be generic to the whole University, so individual departments should adapt and approve it as necessary for their own use.
