Increment Dates

Staff in grades 1 to 5

Increments for staff at grades 1 to 5 in the University's grading structure are paid on 1st August each year, until reaching the maximum of the grade. If you are appointed after 1st February, you will receive your first increment on 1st August in the following year.

Staff in grades 6 to 8

Increments for staff at grades 6 to 8 in the University’s grading structure are paid on 1st October each year, until reaching the maximum of the grade. If you are appointed after 1st April, you will receive your first increment on 1st October in the following year.

Exceptional arrangements

Incremental Increases for staff in grade 9 are linked to the Senior Leadership Remuneration Scheme (SLRS). Under SLRS increases are awarded based on an individual's contribution. This scheme, and how it is applied, is discretionary and non contractual. The University reserves the right to amend or withdraw the scheme at any time, with or without notice.
Apprenticeships - increments are on anniversary of appointment and in line with any conditions of the apprenticeship scheme concerned.
If due to a promotional move or previous terms and conditions (e.g. a researcher on anniversary of appointment date) an employee is on a different increment date from those stated in the harmonised terms for their grade, they will remain on their current increment date until such time as they are offered a new contract for a different post or a promotion to a higher graded post. Extensions of research contracts for the same post would not result in a change of increment date.
