About ITS
As with many organisations, IT is a fundamental enabler to the efficient operation of the University. IT activity occurs across the University through a combination of centrally provided services and local, departmentally based, projects and IT teams.
IT activity across the University is split with approximately 70% delivered through the central IT team, 30% through departmental IT resources.
The central IT team – IT Services (ITS) – provides core technical services such as networking, e-mail, directories, storage, application management, software development and support, hosting services and web publishing solutions. In addition ‘capability’ services such as training, e-learning support, project management and software/license management are also available.
Departmentally based IT teams tend to provide local services that build on the core services provided by ITS. There are some areas of duplication but these are relatively rare and normally in place due to historic reasons.
Resources
IT Services has approximately 170 full time equivalent staff and an annual revenue budget of around £13m. Typically there is a capital budget of £3m.
