Management Information Service

Management information

We can provide University staff with business modelling tools and management information reports to support decision-making. For example, we've provided tools to assist student five-year progression planning, production of annual academic statistics, and reporting on application data.

Benefits

  • Significant reduction in modelling and reporting effort – for example, when modelling business scenarios and presenting complex data in a clear and usable form.
  • Full traceability of data – drill into the underlying detail behind summary numbers, improving confidence in data and identifying anomalies.
  • Historical perspective on current trends – we store historical data which enables year on year reporting.
  • Consistency – we provide a single database to ensure a consistent set of figures can be used when making management decisions.

Charges

The service is currently centrally funded; there are no charges for accessing the service or developing new features.

The Management Information Service board prioritise developments. The board meets each term to review completed work and agree future work. For urgent requirements, staff can engage third parties to undertake development, as guided by the Management Information Service team. However, this will incur additional expenditure.

Availability

We support the service during core business hours. Outside these hours no guarantee on availability is made but the service is left running. There is one scheduled period of downtime each Saturday for regular maintenance.

Data governance

Data within the warehouse is accessible to staff members according to the rules laid down by the department that owns the data and statutory requirements as laid down in relevant legislation.
