ResNet Ethernet
On-campus study bedrooms have an ethernet socket for optimised broadband connection. This can be used to connect a laptop or desktop directly to the University network.
You will need to use a USB-to-ethernet adaptor if you don’t have an ethernet port on your device.
There are two main types of ethernet socket available on campus.
Type 1 - Study Bedroom - Standard Ethernet Outlet
The Ethernet outlet is available in the majority of study bedrooms. Plug a standard Ethernet cable into the outlet to connect your laptop, desktop or other compatible device.
The reference labels shown are useful if you need to log a call with the Helpdesk.
Type 2 - Study Bedroom - Combined Wireless Access Point and Ethernet Outlet
This type of Ethernet outlet is available in some study bedrooms. This combines a wireless access point and Ethernet port on the underside of the unit.
Plug a standard Ethernet cable into the PoE-LAN1 outlet (indicated by the arrow) on the underside of the access point to connect your laptop, desktop or other compatible device. The other ports are switched off and not currently available to use.
