FAQs - Graduate Trainee Placements
What is the difference between an internship and the graduate scheme?
The Graduate Management Trainees have already graduated from university. They are high achieving graduates who are employed by University of Warwick and are taking part in a fast-track leadership development programme with an emphasis on project management. For more information on internships for Warwick students, please click here.
What would they be expected to do on the placement?
Think of the Graduate Management Trainees as Project Officers. They require the chance to get involved in project work, for example: managing budgets, stakeholder management, governance/risk assessments, running marketing campaigns which connect with other organisations, supporting meetings, planning and running events, creating and managing webpages, monitoring social media activity, and/or researching what other organisations are doing (horizon scanning). Please refer to the ‘What makes a good placement?’ section for further information.
When are the placements taking place?
Placement one: October 2024 - May 2025
Placement two: June 2026 - January 2026
Placement three: February 2026 - Septemer 2026
How many Graduate Management Trainees can I apply to host a placement for?
External organisations can apply to host one Graduate Management Trainee. For Warwick departments there may be the possibility of more than one trainee undertaking an internal placement over the course of the 2-year scheme. If you have flexibility in dates, you can select this on the bid form.
How long would they be placed with us?
The placement would be for 8 months, with development time required each week (approximately 1/2 day per week) The rest of the time the Graduate Management Trainees will be undertaking their project management qualification and their development programme. There may be times when they can provide more support, and equally there may be times that they can do slightly less, we would appreciate your flexibility.
Will the graduates be employed by our organisation for their external placement?
They will remain as University of Warwick employees with the same terms and conditions, and their salary will continue to be paid for by Warwick. Their overall line management will also continue to be led by Warwick University; you will need to assign a day-to-day manager for them to report to for their placement.
What are the contract requirements?
For local SMEs, you would need to the complete an external secondment contract provided by the University of Warwick. Your organisation will also need to complete a data sharing agreement and assurance questionnaire. These will be reviewed by our Legal and Compliance Services team and the placement will be subject to these requirements. This documentation is not required for Warwick internal department bids.
