Seminar 4 - Estimation, Variation and Uncertainty

Seminar Overview

Date, venue and booking

The Focus of the Session:

The estimation of parameters and variables is central to much of statistics. It is important to consider not just point estimation but also how the uncertainty in such estimates may be assessed.

In addition to estimation, in this session a group of speakers will discuss clear research questions, what data looks like, uncertainty variation and confidence intervals.

Who is it for?

This series is open to Research Assistants/Post Docs/Research Fellows, etc (ie. all staff doing research: this does not include research students).

Session Objectives:

By the end of the session you will have:

  • gained a greater understanding of the estimation of parameters and variables.
  • gained an appreciation of point estimation.
  • gained an appreciation of how to assess the uncertainty and confidence levels in estimates.
