Researchers today need to be able to reach a wide audience with their research, which can be a daunting task. Learn the essentials of the art of public engagement in this interactive workshop led by an experienced researcher and broadcaster. It will help you to understand the importance of public engagement in the current research environment and will be better equipped to start communicating your own research to capture the interest of a wider audience

Research Active Staff and PhD Students.

Session Objectives:


By the end of the session you will have:

  • Seen examples of effective public engagement activities
  • Evaluated why communicating research to a lay audience can be important
  • Considered broader social contexts for your research
  • Learn to generate interest and raise awareness of a story or issue
  • Appreciated the importance of tailoring style, content and approach for different audiences and modes of communication
  • Practised pitching your research for a lay audience
