Overview:

'Star Maker' outlines the difference between 2* and 3* journals and encourages participants to identify this in examples of work within their disciplines. During the session, we will discuss these critical points and how to embed them in writing practice.

Participants are asked to bring examples with them as part of the discussion and a copy of their work so that they can transfer principles from the discussion directly to their writing in-session.

Who should attend?

Early career researchers; those currently writing 2* publications and those aiming to improve from 2* to 3* publications.

The session is open to all Warwick University Research Active staff - staff on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research & Teaching contracts.

Workshop enables Research Active Staff (RAS) to:

• Identify the differences between 2* and 3* publications.
• Develop strategies to increase writing level, output and confidence.
• Create a short-term and long-term publication plans.
• Learn practical techniques to enhance writing effectiveness.
• Explore and craft analysis to develop writing style.

Workshop Pre-work:

Participants are asked to bring examples with them of:

• A recent article, published or in draft (as a first author).
• A copy of a discipline specific 2* journal.
• A copy of a discipline specific 3* journal.
• Their laptop, iPad, pen and notebook to actively participate in the session.
• Electronic versions of the journals and their work are welcomed.
