Leading and Influencing Research

Overview:

Session 3 will introduce participants to the notion of leadership in research contexts. The session will examine the basis of leadership as a complex set of interactions between an individual and a group, whether a group directly line managed by an individual or through research leadership and influence. The session aims to improve confidence and effectiveness in leading, motivating and influencing others in research contexts

What are the intended learning outcomes for this session?

  • Critically evaluate the notion of ‘leadership’ in research, locating own position
  • Reflect upon own leadership strategies in different research contexts
  • Recognise and enact leadership approaches that respect the dignity and development of others
