String Orchestra

Warwick String Orchestra was set up to increase the opportunity for string players to play together in a relaxed and friendly environment. We enjoy playing music together and aspire to improve as individuals and as an ensemble. We are a totally open and un-auditioned orchestra and we welcome prospective members to come along and try out the repertoire. We are sure you will enjoy it! Recent pieces we have played include Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Elgar’s Serenade, Mozart’s Divertimento and the Barber’s Adagio for Strings.

The String Orchestra is conducted by Roger Coull, the leader of the Coull Quartet – the University’s resident String Quartet. Since being sent up, we have grown and grown and play concerts termly. In the past we have played in Leamington Spa and have taken part in the Kenilworth festival. In the third term we usually play in the Warwick Students’ Arts Festival.

We are a very active social society and enjoy having a good time outside of rehearsal. In addition to the weekly trip to the pub, many fun socials are organised during the year including curry nights, the beautiful Kenilworth firework display, the music centre ball and the beer festival.

The Orchestra rehearses every Thursday, by the cafe seating in the Arts Centre between 6-8pm.
