Thurs 28th Oct: My 1st Concert (in HMS)
Sophie Lawson (saxophone)
Susie Bentley-Taylor (piano)
Sophie studied saxophone at Trinity College of Music and since then has enjoyed a varied career of teaching and performing a great mix of musical styles in diverse surroundings! Some highlights have the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her quartet, Sax Collective, and a solo in the Royal Albert Hall to an audience of over 4000 school children, as well as playing in local care homes and nurseries. Sophie now has three children and has the joy of encouraging them in their musical journey, as well as leading Music Bugs classes for babies and toddlers. She loves sharing her music with anyone from 0 to 100!
The saxophone is one of the most versatile instruments around, so expect to be 'blown away' by all it can do! Plenty to delight all ages, this concert will take you around the world, on a whistle stop tour of different musical styles. From mesmerising melodies to toe-tapping fun, plus a few familiar tunes and some audience participation of course!!
Susie studied piano and violin at the Junior Department of the Birmingham Conservatoire from the ages of 11-18 before studying Music and English at the University of Durham. Since then, she has enjoyed teaching piano to a variety of ages and taking opportunities to play and accompany wherever they arise! She now has four young children and is enjoying encouraging their own experience of music alongside her own.
