David Gordon

Thurs 11th Nov: David Gordon, piano

Americans in Paris 2

Continuing from his last recital at Warwick early in 2020, David takes another look at some of the 20th century American composers and musicians who came to Paris either to study with the great Nadia Boulanger or to immerse themselves in the cultural and musical scene there. Expect music by Philip Glass, Bud Powell, Stravinsky, Miles Davis and more, one or two originals and plenty of improvisation.

David Gordon is a musical polymath - composer, improviser, keyboard player, educator. Amongst recent and current projects, he is arranging Finnish tangos for the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, writing the soundtrack for an independent British film, has started an Improvising Baroque Orchestra, is performing with his trio, David Gordon Trio, ahead of the release of their seventh CD, Pachyderm next year, setting some of the psalms for jazz singer Jacqui Dankworth with band and choir, whilst maintaining a portfolio teaching presence at the Purcell School for Young Musicians.
