Shut Up and Write!
It can be hard to find time to write, and it can be hard to stay motivated; and having the motivation and the opportunity at the same time is another question entirely!
Joining an informal writing group helps you to address these challenges. Being part of a community of writers generates a sense of belonging and (minimal) accountability, which is good for motivation; and having a defined, regular time and place to write makes it easier to plan ahead.
This writing group follows the principles of the Shut Up and Write! movement. As such:
- it does not matter what you are working on (research, planning, blogging, CPD, reflection, personal project) so long as you are writing
- we do not read or comment on each others' work
- we take regular breaks
- we work very quietly, while writing, and set aside some time to socialise at the end
Schedule
Sessions take place on the second Monday of every month. Click the links in the 'Date' column below to register to attend a session. Registration is not essential; this data is collected to help manage room bookings.

Please note that attendance at a SUAW! session does not count towards the CPD requirement for the APP PGR.

Pete is an Associate Professor in the Academic Development Centre (ADC), in Senate House. He has been an Academic Developer since 2018, and is a Programme Lead on APP TE. He earned his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Warwick in 2015.
