Working Securely: Workspace Update

Man and woman looking at a computer

What is Workspace?

As we mentioned in our previous communication, Workspace is a new secure online service at Warwick that allows authorised users to access University systems and data remotely and securely. Using it, you will be able to access and work on standard web-based ITS software. We aim to launch this service before the end of August.

How does it work?

Workspace.warwick.ac.uk is a virtual desktop accessed through a web browser. Once you’ve signed in, you will have a secure window on to a simplified Warwick desktop. You don’t need to register or download any software or change any settings on your device. It works straight from your browser window – and will run on any platform, including Mac and Linux.

When can I access Workspace?

We will get in touch with you, providing dates when you can start accessing Workspace.

What can I access?

Through your browser you will be able to use web applications, for example, email, calendar, SuccessFactors, Sharepoint and Tabula. You’ll also be able to use most of the commonly-needed tools – such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Teams. You will see the simplified Warwick desktop (and depending on what software you can already access) shortly you will also be able to use applications such as SITS, SAP or PSE. All the data, information, messages, emails etc. you use on the remote computer – all your University activity – is kept separate from your personal device and secure.

Are there limitations to Workspace?

Work saved to your local C:Drive within Workspace will not be stored permanently. You can save your work to Sharepoint or OneDrive. You can also open and save files to and from your document folder (held on your home H:Drive). Or save to a shared drive if you have one. Who should use it? For now, this service is reserved for and should ONLY be used by staff using a privately-owned device for University work from home and who are unable to change to a University-owned device.
