6-a-side Volleyball League Rules
1. Organisation
The League is organised and delivered by Warwick Sport. The League will be managed the Warwick Sport Sports Engagement Officer. The Sport Engagement Officer and the League Activator will have the final say on all matters of the league.
All captains (or nominated team member) must attend a compulsory captain meeting ahead of the season starting. Details of when this will take place will be sent to all captains prior to the start of their league.
2. Squads
- The squad may consist of between 4 and 10 players, with 4 players forming a team for each match.
- Once the team captain has paid/registered the team, the captain and all other team members are required to sign up on PlaywazeLink opens in a new window and join their team (League Activator will add teams to the Playwaze league).
- Captains must email the team name to warwickactive@warwick.ac.uk
- Teams with unregistered players may potentially be removed from the league. Random spot checks will take place throughout the league to ensure all participants are registered.
- Players must book on each week as a participant to gain access through the barriers at the Sports Hub.
3. General rules
- Before each match begins, there will be a 15-minute grace period to allow players to warm up on court. We advise that players arrive on court 15mins before their game in their volleyball attire to avoid delays. Further warmups can be conducted off court before the grace period at the discretion of the League Activator and Warwick Sport.
- Fixtures are best of 3 sets (Standard volleyball scoring rules apply). Points will be awarded as follows:
- 3 points for a 2-0 victory.
- 2 points for a 2-1 victory.
- 1 point for a 2-1 loss.
- 0 points for a 2-0 loss.
- The winner will be decided at the end of term based on total points. In the event of a tie the following metrics will be used: Set difference, Total sets won, Best of 3 match.
- If a team fails to show up with at least 4 players, they will be required to forfeit the match resulting in a 2-0 Loss.
- There can only be a maximum of 4 male UWVC ex/current players within a rotation.
- The team’s players for each set must contain at least 1 different player compared to the previous set.
- Liberos/Defensive Specialists can be in rotation following the official volleyball rules.
- Each team needs to have 2 female players.
- Each team needs to have at least 2 non-competitive team members.
- All communication and updates will be made via the Active League Teams channel, which all captains must register on.
4. Fixtures
- Fixtures for the term will be uploaded to PlaywazeLink opens in a new window.
- League Activators will inform captains of fixtures and any changes.
- If a team cannot make a fixture, they must inform the League Activator as soon as possible, and at least 72 hours before the match. Failure to do so will result in a walkover for that match.
- Where possible, and as long as enough notice (72+ hours) is provided to the League Activator and Warwick Sport, we will reschedule the fixture for a date and time during the same term.
5. Results
- Match results should be entered on PlaywazeLink opens in a new window by each captain or League Activator, ideally within 24 hours of the match being played.
- Result disputes can be raised via the League Activator or emailed to warwickactive@warwick.ac.uk.
- The format of the league will depend on entries and is at the discretion of the League Activator.
6. Disputes
- In the case of a dispute teams should first contact the League Activator.
- If there is disagreement with the decision of the League Activator or Sport Engagement Officer, the matter shall be referred to the Active Wellbeing Manager, who’s decision is final.
7. Conduct
Team captains are encouraged to report any misconduct to the relevant Sport Engagement Officer overseeing the league.
Should a team, or players from a team, indulge in any actions that are deemed by the organisers to be detrimental to the good spirit of the league, then the organisers are entitled to take appropriate action. This may include, but is not limited to, suspension of players, loss of points, exclusion from the competition with no refund given and referral to the University’s student conduct team. Please refer to our Active Leagues code of conduct.
8. League refunds
-
Refunds will not be issued for teams failing to attend fixtures at any point during the time allocated for the league.
