Warwick's Player of the Weekend Takes Two BUCS Medals Home

This weekend was the biggest weekend on the university snooker calendar ? BUCS. The club at Warwick had high hopes, especially for the seconds in the secondary ?Trophy? team and individual tournaments. At this, his third BUCS, Guneet made a strong run in the individuals and proved instrumental to the team?s success and progress through to the latter stages.

A senior member not only of the team but of the club, Guneet came into form at just the right time and spent any available time practising on free tables, more often than not with the only fresher in our side, giving them both time outside of serious matches to get used to the tables without pressure. Guneet?s personality and character meant that he was able to bring the best out of himself and others, and he played a huge part in forging the team spirit which helped us to play to our abilities and progress through the tournament.

In the individuals, he got further than any other Warwick player in reaching the semi-finals before losing out to a very capable match-winner. In the team event, he quickly established himself as the first name on the teamsheet and, winning more frames than anyone else in the group stage to take us through. The team eventually finished runners-up in the Trophy, earning Guneet a second medal of the weekend.

Guneet Walia deserves recognition for playing some fantastic snooker this weekend, making himself a key part of a successful team and being an excellent representative for the university. The club will certainly be in safe hands if he is successful in his application to be Club President.
