Celebrating the Activator Awards 2019

Celebrating the Activator Awards 2019

On Thursday 20th June we held our annual activator awards evening to celebrate the hard work and dedication of all of our activators, without who we would not be able to deliver such a large and successful programme.

The annual event was held for the first time this year in the Sports & Wellness Hub, using the multi-purpose room for the awards ceremony and the balcony for the reception and BBQ. The awards ceremony was followed by a few word from guest speaker Sarah-Jane Perry. British no.1 and world no.6squash player Sarah-Jane, who is also a Warwick alumnus, spoke to our activators about her experiences and the impact volunteers have had on her career to date, as well as her aspirations to give back to the sport. She also spoke about her experience at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and brought her silver medal with her for them to see and hold.

It was another successful event and we have included quotes from some of the activators who attended:

“A great evening. It was lovely to see the impact that activators like me have to the level of sports engagement across campus. I was honoured to have received the award for Staff & Postgraduate Activator of the Year. It was great to be able to share this achievement and hear about the amazing accomplishments of other activators who have achieved so much.”

- Dan Walker, Staff & Postgraduate Activator of the Year 2019

“The awards evening was a great opportunity to celebrate the last year of achievements, meet other activators and provide feedback to Warwick Sport.

It was a privilege to be recognised with the Innovation award and I’m pleased that I could make a positive impact with the Tri-Grid challenge.”

- James Van Hinsbergh, Winner of the Innovation Award 2019

“Absolutely brilliant evening, as always. It was a real privilege to be welcomed into the new Multi-Purpose Space in the Hub for the first time. It is a fantastic venue and I was in awe of all the inspirational Activators in attendance and all of this year’s magnificent prize-winners. It was good to see so many awards being presented to new Running Activators and those coming through from the Couch to 5k and 5-10k courses.”

-Jean Noonan, Last year’s Unsung Hero

The awards evening was a very enjoyable and fun way to end the academic year and my time at Warwick. It was great to achieve recognition through the commitment award, not only for my time this year as an activator but for the four years of attending, since I was the only participant at the first rock up tennis session in October 2015.

- Matthew Laurel, Winner of the Commitment Award 2019

Thank you to all those who attended and to our activators for doing such a wonderful job all year.
