Emergency Loan Overview
If you are experiencing short-term difficulties with your essential living costs you may be eligible for a repayable interest-free Emergency Loan of up to £250.
Certain enrolment and course exclusions apply, such as students who are permanently withdrawn or students who are undertaking a degree apprenticeship. To be eligible you must also not have any prior loans outstanding for payment, and not have received 3 emergency loans in the last 12 months. To apply for an emergency loan, please email us at studentfunding@warwick.ac.uk or telephone Student Funding Support at 024 7615 0096.
As a minimum, you will need to provide the following details in your email or on the telephone:
- Your full name and Warwick Student ID number.
- Your reason for requiring an emergency loan.
- Your current bank balance (including any overdraft facility and whether this is interest-bearing - It is expected that students will access their approved overdraft facility before applying for an emergency loan).
Once approved, we usually make the payment to your UK bank account by BACS payment into your bank account. Please note, that it can take up to 10 working days from the date you submit your bank details for the Emergency Loan to reach your bank account. Payment can only be made into UK bank accounts or some digital only bank accountsLink opens in a new window If you don’t have a UK bank account, or if you need the money sooner, we may be able to pay the loan in cash. If you need the loan in cash, please let us know in your initial email or telephone call.
We cannot process emergency loan applications on non-working days (e.g., weekends, bank holidays, Christmas shutdown etc).
Emergency loans do not accrue interest and are shown as a debt to the University on your Warwick account.
Once you have received your Emergency Loan, you will be sent an email which confirms your repayment date. If you are unable to repay the loan by the repayment date, please contact us at
