Profile - Gemma Carter-Morris
As part of Welcome Week 2018, we speak to a variety of staff about their involvement.
Name – Gemma Carter-Morris
Job title – Head of Sport and Active Lifestyles
Department – Warwick Sport
1. Can you tell us a bit about your role?
I oversee all the programmes that we deliver to encourage individuals to take part in sport and physical activity and support our active campus vision. This includes our health and wellbeing offer, the Warwick Active Programme, the partnership with the SU to support sports clubs, our performance sport programme and our physiotherapy provision.
2. And what’s your involvement in Warwick Welcome Week 2018?
I have been the lead within Warwick Sport in developing an exciting and diverse programme of activities that new students can get involved with throughout the whole of Welcome Week.
3. This year sees an entirely new approach and programme for Welcome. What benefits will this bring to new students?
I think it is a hugely positive step forward to include a Welcome Week for new students to allow them to fully experience campus life and all the opportunities that are available to them at Warwick before all their academic commitments start.
4. What are you most looking forward to about Welcome Week?
I love the buzz on campus when all of the new students start, there is so much excitement and anticipation of what university life will bring and I think this will be even more so this year with Welcome Week.
I am also really looking forward to the Warwick Sport programme that we have put in place, some of the highlights I think will be our night climbing, pool party and late night gym session on Tuesday 25 September, our Health and Wellbeing evening on Wednesday 26 September, our Sports Day with all club taster sessions on Friday 28 September as well as tournaments, runs, campus tours, tennis sessions, UV roller discos and so much more!
