Welcome Week profile - Jane Batchelor
As part of Welcome Week 2018, we speak to a variety of staff about their involvement.
Name – Jane Batchelor
Job title – Communications & Marketing Director
Department – Warwick Students' Union
1. Can you tell us a bit about your role?
My role is hugely varied and covers all of the Marketing & Communications functions across the Students’ Union as well as oversight of our Campaigns & Community Team. I know it’s a cliché, but no two days are the same!
2. And what’s your involvement in Warwick Welcome Week 2018?
I have been involved in the early design and planning phases of Welcome Week, working in partnership with the University and Chris Luck and his fabulous team. We have also had our own working group within the Students’ Union and everyone is hugely excited about the week and the opportunities it brings for engaging with and supporting our new members in the early days of their time at Warwick. If I am still standing (!), I will see it through to delivery, with oversight of a lot of the operational elements during the week.
3. This year sees an entirely new approach and programme for Welcome. What benefits will this bring to new students?
Welcome Week will bring lots of benefits to our new students. This is something that the Students’ Union has campaigned for some time on, so to be a part of making it happen is amazing. With all of our new undergrad, postgrad and international students arriving over the same weekend and then having a week free of lectures to help them settle into their new home from home, will in itself bring lots of positive benefits.
4. What are you most looking forward to about Welcome Week?
There are too many amazing events to single one out, so I think it would have to be Welcome Weekend and welcoming all of our new members as they arrive onto campus for the first time.
