Bug Hotel Building

In order to support a variety of wildlife to use our campus, we will be building more "bug hotels" in collaboration with the Grounds and Gardens Team.

The activity will take place on 12th February, between 12:00 - 1:00 pm, near the Student Allotments - the exact location will be specified in the booking confirmation.

This event is open to students and staff.

There are a maximum of 15 spaces available, so sign up now to avoid disappointment!

This activity contributes to the Warwick Award.

What is a bug hotel and how to build one?

We will make our bug hotels by stacking 4 pallets on top of each other. We will then fill the different "floors" with a range of natural materials, including rocks, twigs, bark and leaves. This complex environment creates a brilliant habitat for a variety of invertebrates, herptiles and small mammals, providing them with shelter and boosting biodiversity. The bug hotels will be inhabited all year round, as during the winter they will serve as fantastic hibernation sites for a wide range of invertebrate and vertebrate species.

To participate in this activity, volunteers must wear suitable clothing to be outdoors, sturdy footwear (walking boots are recommended) and bring gardening gloves (i.e. knitted gloves are not suitable as they don't provide sufficient protection).

Please note, we are unable to provide spare gloves and every participant is responsible for bringing their own.

Please read the Risk AssessmentLink opens in a new window before attending the event.

This form is closed as the event is fully booked. If you would like to be added to the waiting list, please email sustainability@warwick.ac.uk quoting "bug hotel building".
