EuroBioBlitz- What is it?

EuroBioBlitz is a continental challenge is taking place in over 40 countries across Europe on the 29th and 30th of September 2023. It’s a chance for anyone and everyone to contribute to the study of Europe’s trees, plants and wildlife. These records can be used by researchers and scientists to get a better understanding of our wildlife across Europe.

You don’t have to be an expert to take part, simply download the free iNaturalist app, take a photo of wildlife in your local area, whether that’s a tree, plant, animal or insect, and upload. You don’t even have to know anything about the species you are sharing. Experts will be reviewing and updating the information that’s submitted, so you can log back in later and learn more about what you’ve spotted.

How can you get involved in EuroBioBlitz at Warwick?

We will be running a series of walks on the 29th of September which you can sign up to here. They are a great chance to get out in the fresh air, meet new people and contribute to local wildlife records! You are welcome to come to as many of the walks as you can.

Walk 1: 9-10am - Focus on birds - start at Sports and Wellness Hub - please bring binoculars if you have them!

Walk 2: 10:30-11:30pm - Record everything we see - start at Scarman

Walk 3: 13:30-14:30pm - Focus on grassland species - start at Health Centre

You can also get involved on your own, if you don't have time or are not able to join in on a walk, by using the iNaturalist app wherever you are on the 29th and 30th of September (and on any other day too, you can make use of iNaturalist all year round)!

How do you use iNaturalist?

You can attend a session via Zoom, ran by the organisers of EuroBioBlitz, where they will show you how to use iNaturalist. The details of this are below. We can also show you how to use it on the day, just make sure to have the app downloaded before the walk.
