Moving Out Sustainably

This webpage is under construction. Please check back later.

End of Term Donation Drive is a campus-wide initiative we run every year at the end of the academic year as students begin to move out of their accommodation blocks and leave Warwick for the summer holidays. Our aim is to repurpose and recycle as many items as possible that would otherwise end up in general waste.

Moving Out of On Campus Accommodation

Moving out of on-campus accommodation can generate a lot of waste - from leftover food, broken electricals and bulky items you can't transport. Here is our guide to moving out in a more sustainable way, minimising waste, benefiting your local community and enabling a circular economy on campus.

Volunteering with End of Term Donations

Enabling the end of term donations requires manpower, to spread the word amongst students, sort items, and to support the Estates teams with the larger donation zones. Sign up to our donation alerts and join our End of Term donation mailing list.

Circular Economy in a Nutshell

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation Link opens in a new windowdefines circular economy as "a system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated. In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting. The circular economy tackles climate change and other global challenges, like biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources."

Our Impact so Far

The University of Warwick promotes the concept of Circular Economy by providing collection points and other platforms across campus for students and staff to donate or swap their unwanted items.

Food Drive

During our proactive Food DriveLink opens in a new window at the end of term 2 in 2024, with the help of Warwick VolunteersLink opens in a new window, we have collected 125 kilograms of non-perishable food which was donated to the Trussell Trust's Coventry branch.

End of Year Collections

Since 2019, we have donated over 5 tonnes of food to food banks and over 30 tonnes of kitchenware to local charities. We also have raised over £5,000 to help our local community.

British Heart Foundation #PackForGood Partnership

In 2023 alone, our community have donated an amazing 2,211 bags of preloved items with a value over £30,000 to help lifesaving research. We have diverted 17.7 tonnes of items to go to waste which equivalent to 3.2 African male elephants. You can find British Heart Foundation donation pointsLink opens in a new window scattered around campus.

Why should you donate?

Where are the donations going?

We work with a number of local and national charities who will all benefit greatly from the donations received. Lots of charities have been particularly hard hit during the coronavirus pandemic and cost of living crisis, so your donations to the End of Year Donation Drive will make a huge difference to those in need.
