Wild Warwick

What is Wild Warwick?

Wild Warwick is a new project for 2024, which aims to promote wildlife and green spaces on campus. Our campus is home to a huge variety of wildlife and green spaces, yet many do not know that they exist, and we want to change this! We want to encourage people to get outside, to take a break from work/studying, and to learn more about their local environment. There are two parts to Wild Warwick:

  • A competition, open from Monday 14th October to Monday 2nd December. We invite submissions of art, including photography, canvas, poetry, pottery and other forms of medium, which uses the University's wildlife as inspiration. Prizes available. More information will be available here when the competition is launched.
  • An exhibition, to take place in FAB Agora, from Monday 6th January to Friday 24th January. This will showcase the winning submissions, alongside information on species and habitats across campus, as well as engagement events and information on conservation groups and projects both on and off campus.

What wildlife can be found on campus?

Campus is home to a huge variety of mammals, such as hedgehogs, bats, foxes and badgers! Birds found on campus include siskin, sparrowhawks, goldfinches and woodpeckers. There is also a huge variety of fungi, invertebrates and insects.

The iNaturalistLink opens in a new window app is a great way to identify and record species that you see on campus (and elsewhere)! You can join the University of Warwick Wildlife Observations group here Link opens in a new windowto see all of the wildlife spotted on campus - over 1,100 species! Check out the photos in the carousel above which showcase some of the biodiversity found on campus.
