We’re Dreaming of a Green Christmas
The University is committed to reducing our energy consumption and to minimising wastage. As many prepare to leave campus during this time please remember to play your part in reducing consumption. Remember to:
- Turn off all the lights;
- Close the windows;
- Switch off IT equipment including computers, monitors, screens, projectors and chargers;
- Turn off electrical devices at the plug where possible rather than putting in standby;
- In kitchens, switch off hot water boilers and microwave;
- Empty kitchen fridges, turn it off and leave the door slightly ajar; and
- If you’re in a lab, switch off as much equipment as possible including drying cabinets and incubators.
At home there’s lots of things we can all do to ensure Christmas is not a season of waste. Here are some of our top tips but check of the 17 SDGs of Christmas to find out more:
- Turn the thermostat down and adjust your heating so you don’t heat your home when you’re out or asleep;
- Plan what you’re going to eat and share any excess on food sharing apps; and
- Use recyclable wrapping paper with no foil or glitter.
