Christmas ‘Setback mode’ Saves 25.8 Tonnes of CO2
Over the Christmas break, the Energy and BMS teams worked with building managers to identify which buildings would be empty. We put these buildings into "Setback Mode" to save energy.
What did we do
Instead of heating empty rooms to comfort levels, we turned the temperature down to a background level of 14°C. This kept the buildings safe from frost and kept the hot water running, but stopped us from wasting heat on empty spaces.
The Results
After reviewing the data (and accounting for the weather conditions), the results are great. We saved £9,400 and prevented 25.82 tonnes of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere.
To put that carbon saving into perspective, it’s equivalent to:
- Taking 15 petrol cars off the road for a whole year.
- Driving a car around the world 4 times.
- The annual heating emissions of 10 UK homes.
- The carbon absorbed by 1,200 trees in a year.
