The National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme on ITV News
In 2025, the University of Warwick's Wellesbourne Innovation Campus was selected as a study siteLink opens in a new window for the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme (NHMP). This nationwide research project is exploring the feasibility of using wildlife trail cameras to provide accurate population estimates for hedgehogs. The project continues this year all over the UK, and also at Wellesbourne Innovation Campus.

The NHMP has recently featured on ITV News, raising much needed awareness about the importance of the project – you can watch the report starting at 9:22 at ITV News Central (West).
Even though volunteer spaces are filled for deploying and collecting cameras at study sites this year, volunteers are still needed to help analyse the images on MammalWeb. Along with images from four other sites in Warwickshire, the hundreds of thousands of images of local wildlife are available on MammalWebLink opens in a new window for volunteers to ID them.
