Our campus has grown a great deal over recent years. Despite this, our emissions have not, and we have plans in place to keep increasing our carbon efficiency as more buildings open in the coming years.

Three quick ways of looking at our performance:

Absolute: Total carbon emissions (Scope 1 and 2)

When you look at the total amount of carbon the campus has emitted, you can see that actions we have taken through technology and behavioural change have seen our emissions begin to decrease. Whilst there isn’t a massive reduction, emissions are still below 2005/06 levels and the University has grown a great deal, so this is a real achievement.

The 3^rd parties mentioned below are external companies/organisations who occupy University buildings including the Students Union. These bodies are financially independent of the University and have autonomy over how and when they use energy in the spaces we provide to them. We do work with them to support implementation of carbon reduction measures.

Population: Carbon emitted per FTE

In the graph below you can see how the carbon efficiency of the University has improved over recent years. This trend, which we aim to continue.

Space: Carbon emitted per m2 of Floor Area

In the graph below you can see how the levels of carbon emissions have reduced on campus over recent years per m2 of floor area. This reflects both the high standards of our new buildings and the improvements we are making in our older buildings.
