We run 3 main types of events:

1. Resonate Lates - for adult audiences, taking place off-campus in community venues, usually in the evenings.
2. Day Out! - for children aged 5-11 and their adults, usually on campus.
3. Resonate Roadshows - a chance for students to share their knowledge. Audience differs depending on the specific event.

The activity you do will depend on the type of event you get involved with. Here's a few examples:

• Resonate Lates - talks, panels
• Day Out! - hands-on activity, workshops, performances

• Adult audiences - check out our Resonate Lates, a year-round programme of evening events for adults, taking place off-campus in community venues. We try to match topics and venues, to ensure our programme meets the interests of regular space users. However, we assume the audience have no prior knowledge of our topics at these events.
• Children aged 5-11 (and their accompanying adults) - check out our Day Out! events, usually on-campus. Your activity doesn't have to be suitable for everyone aged 5-11, as we provide age guidance for each activity within the day.

Want to engage with a more specific audience? There is no such thing as 'the public', as everyone is unique and will bring a different level of background knowledge to your activity. As such, the number of specific audiences you could engage with are endless! Check out this guide on Audience Development to find out more. Participating in our events allows you to have a go at public engagement without the pressure of finding your own audience or running your own event.

There are many benefits of doing public engagement. For staff and postgraduates, this could include the chance to find new perspectives on your research, develop new skills or influence more people to be passionate about your subject area. The benefits will be different for everyone, so we recommend you take some time to reflect on why engagement matters to you. For students, getting involved in public engagement is a great way to develop key skills, such as communication, innovative and creative thinking, and teamwork.

There is no cost to you or your department if you get involved with a Resonate event.

We can purchase any materials you may need for your activity. We have a fully stocked cupboard of event equipment, so there's also a high chance we already own the kit you may need. All we ask is that you return any reusable kit back to us after you participate in the event. You can always borrow it again if you run your activity in the future!

After filling out an expression of interest form, we'll meet you for an initial meeting to discuss your ideas. At this point, we'll direct you to relevant training in our Skills FestivalLink opens in a new window or Live TrainingLink opens in a new window programme, that may help you develop your activity.

We also ask all participants to join us for a rehearsal/check-in session. We can provide advice and guidance to ensure your activity is suitable for the target audience.

Of course! If your event is free, or up to £5 to attend, and the primary audience is the public, we're more than happy to share it via the Resonate website and social media accounts.

No, we do not do schools engagement. If we engage with school-age children, this will be at after-school, weekend or holiday events. For support with schools engagement, get in touch with the Widening Participation team.

Unfortunately not. Our aim is to engage with the public, so we cannot offer support for events aimed at staff, students or academics from other institutions.
