Happy Earth Day 2021

If there was ever a time to reassess your relationship with the planet, it’s today. Why? Today marks the 51st annual Earth Day, and with an incredible range of virtual events, it’s easier to get involved than ever before.

Why do we celebrate Earth Day?

Earth Day launched in 1970, with the intention of celebrating our unique and diverse planet, whilst simultaneously raising awareness of its fragility and the important role we can play maintaining its life support systems.

Today, with biodiversity levels plummeting and our climate crisis compounding by the day, the importance of coming together to acknowledge the incredible value of our planet cannot be overstated.

Restore our Earth

The theme for Earth Day 2021 (22nd April) is ‘Restore our Earth’ - a reflection of the decades of harm that our species have inflicted upon our home through exploitation, urbanisation, deforestation and pollution. In order to combat this damage, Earth Day is focusing upon natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking. By exploring these ideas, there is hope that we can steadily build a sustainable future for all of Earth’s inhabitants - humans, animals and plants alike!

How can I get involved?

Earth Day is a truly global occasion, delivering a tremendous array of events hosted by 193 countries. Wherever you are in the world, you are able to be as involved as you would like to be! On the 22nd April, 12PM Eastern Time (or 5PM UK Time), the global show debuts alongside the Biden Administration’s global climate summit.

The event will feature workshops, panel discussions and special performances covering a range of topics. Never heard of ‘climate and environmental literacy?’ Do you want to know more about ‘regenerative agriculture?’ How about ‘citizen science?’ Earth Day will offer you a unique insight into all of these concepts and more, so whether you’re an expert on environmental affairs or just starting out, this global event is bound to engage, inspire, and allow you to reflect on what we can all do to restore our planet.

Head to the website here to attend the virtual summit and find out more about what Earth Day has to offer. If you’re curious about what else is available, scroll to the bottom of the page for a handy interactive map displaying a blend of hundreds of virtual and in-person events around the globe.

Happy Earth Day!
