Rebalancing Economics

Economics may seem like a discrete discipline, but it shapes every part of our lives. Decisions made about the economy impact everything from access to healthcare to how we respond to global crises like climate change.

Women are significantly underrepresented in the study and practice of economics, meaning their perspectives are excluded from these decisions. And the problem is getting worse. In the UK, the number of women beginning degrees in economics has declined over the past two decades.

Warwick will reverse this trend by supporting women at every stage of their economics education and career. We will provide scholarships for talented women from undergraduate study through to PhD, creating a clear pipeline into research and professional practice. To achieve lasting cultural change, we will offer wraparound support for female economists, including mentoring, career guidance, and visible institutional role models.

The impact will be a reinvigorated economics discipline that creates a more equitable world for all.

Gillmore Centre for FinTech

The Gillmore Centre for Financial Technology at Warwick Business School was founded in 2019 through generous philanthropic support. Since its founding, the Centre has become a leading force in the rapidly evolving field of financial technology.

Building on this success, the Centre is now expanding its vision to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges: financial inequality, lack of access to essential banking services, and corruption.

Through its Financial Inclusion research stream, the Gillmore Centre will explore how technology can deliver vital financial services to people who have been excluded from the banking system.

The new Blockchain and Cryptocurrency research stream will investigate how blockchain technology can strengthen transparency, accountability, and trust in financial and governmental systems.

With the right philanthropic support, the Gillmore Centre will translate frontline research into tangible change, expanding fairness and access. The impact will be a future where financial systems work for everyone, not just a privileged few.

Centre for Fraud and Risk

Corporate fraud is a growing global crisis that devastates the lives of ordinary people. When major companies collapse due to fraudulent activity, families lose their life savings, pensions evaporate, and entire communities suffer.

WBS has developed a revolutionary model capable of predicting future fraudulent activity before it occurs with 90% accuracy – the first and only early-warning system of its kind. This tool offers the ability to identify corporations that are at risk and prevent catastrophic damage long before any misconduct begins.

Through philanthropy, Warwick can establish a centre to scale this proven model and create the first truly comprehensive global fraud prevention system. The new Centre will launch an online portal offering fraud risk assessments while ensuring it remains independent and for public good. It will recruit researchers from a range of backgrounds to establish the discipline of fraud prevention and make Warwick its home.
