New Professor post in Computer Science and Mathematics
The Department of Computer Science, the Department of Mathematics, and the Centre for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP) at the University of Warwick invite applications for a Professor in the area of Discrete Mathematics, in Algorithms and Complexity, in Theoretical Computer Science, or in relevant areas on the interface of Computer Science and Mathematics.
We seek outstanding applicants with an internationally leading research profile who can provide strong academic leadership. Applicants should have strong research program, a commitment to teaching, a proven record of attracting research funding and supervision of students and young researchers.
This is a permanent position based in two world leading departments, the Department of Computer Science and the Warwick Mathematics Institute, and the position is thought to enhance the collaboration between these two departments, and to contribute to and lead the activities in the DIMAP center. The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in computer science or mathematics, conduct research in her/his field of expertise and actively participate in other Computer Science and Mathematics Departments DIMAP, and university activities.
Preference will be given to outstanding researchers with an independent research agenda who will:
- complement existing strengths in the Department of Computer Science, the Mathematics Institute, and the Centre for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications (DIMAP), and/or
- bridge between existing areas of expertise within DIMAP, the Department of Computer Science and the Mathematics Institute.
Relevant areas of interest include, but are not limited to, discrete mathematics, combinatorics, graph theory, theoretical computer science, design and analysis of algorithms and data structures, computational complexity. Warwick is recognized as one the top leading research centers in these areas worldwide and we aim to attract top talent to an ambitious, creative and collaborative environment. Our track record include numerous papers in top journals and conferences, and our members have been awarded 7 ERC awards and several UK fellowships (e.g., UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and Royal Society University Research Fellowship).
The University of Warwick is consistently ranked in the top tier of UK’s research-intensive universities and both the Department of Computer Science and the Mathematics Institute are traditionally ranked among top UK departments. In particular, in the last 2014 REF (Research Excellence Framework) exercise, the Department of Computer Science has been ranked #2 in the UK and #1 in research outputs, and Warwick Statistics and the Warwick Mathematics Institute together have been ranked 3rd in the UK with research environment at Warwick rated as the very best in the UK for mathematical sciences.

Namely, together with a completed application form, candidates should submit a Curriculum Vitae which includes a list of publications. Shortlisted candidates will be requested to arrange for three reference letters to be submitted to the University. While the (standard) application form asks for the names of 3 referees, these names will not be needed at this stage so the corresponding fields can be left black in an application.
In order to be considered, applications must be received by June 5, 2022 (Sunday). (earlier the deadline was on June 1, but since June 2-5 are holidays (long weekend) in the UK, we extended it to June 5)
