County Durham

Northumberland

Berwick Museum and Art Gallery

Great North Museum: Hancock

The Great North Museum incorporates collections from the Hancock Museum and Newcastle University’s Museum of Antiquities, the Shefton Museum and the Hatton Gallery.

Tyne and Wear

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums

They say 'We manage a collection of nine museums and galleries across Tyneside and the Archives for Tyne and Wear. We are supported by the five local authorities of the area and Newcastle University.'

Arbeia Roman Fort

They say 'Standing above the entrance to the River Tyne, Arbeia Roman Fort guarded the main sea route to Hadrian's Wall. It was a key garrison and military supply base to other forts along the Wall and is an important part of the history of Roman Britain.'

Discovery Museum

Great North Museum: Hancock

They say 'The collections in the museum belong to the Natural History Society of Northumbria (NHSN), the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne (SANT) and the Shefton collection of Greek and Etruscan objects was bequeathed by the late Professor Brian Shefton.

Laing Art Gallery

They say 'The gallery today is home to an internationally important collection of art, focusing on British oil paintings, watercolours, ceramics, silver and glassware.'

Segedunum Roman Fort

They say 'Today, Segedunum is once again a major site on Hadrian's Wall. It is the most excavated fort along the Wall with surviving foundations of many buildings and part of the Wall itself.

South Shields Museum & Art Gallery
