Roman Coins and Warwick Numismatics Day - June 2023

We are pleased to announce the upcoming training sessions brought to you by the Money & Medals Network and the Warwick Department of Classics and Ancient History.

MMN Training Day – 15/06/2023 (10:00 – 17:00)

Join us at Warwick for the MMN Training Day as we provide unique, hands-on learning opportunities to develop your skills in coin identification, cataloguing, as well as storage and display techniques for coin collections. Participants will gain practical knowledge from experienced professionals in the field of numismatics. There will also be a numismatic round table where attendees can discuss and exchange ideas on current issues and challenges in the field.

Warwick Numismatics Day – 16/06/2023 (9:00 – 17:30)

We are also excited to announce the return of the Warwick Numismatics Day, which serves as an excellent platform for showcasing current research as well as for developing new ideas, methodologies, and networks.

This year's theme is on imitation coinage, referring to coins deliberately made to resemble genuine coins, but not produced by the official minting authorities. Such coins can be a source of important historical and cultural information, shedding light on issues such as local economic conditions, political affiliations, and artistic styles. Imitation coinage can be found from various historical periods and in various parts of the world, making it a fascinating area of study for numismatists and historians alike.
