WiP: John Wilmot (Warwick): 'Aspects of mid-Victorian medical institutions in the West Midlands'

- Export as iCalendar
Location: H4.50, off Graduate Space, Humanities building

John Wilmot will be presenting a paper which discusses aspects of mid-Victorian medical institutions in the West Midlands. He writes:

"At the WIP session I would like to discuss aspects of mid-Victorian medical institutions in the West Midlands. This will particularly focus on a dispute in 1867-8 between the Birmingham General Dispensary and its senior medical staff. The latter had advocated some changes, including the payment of a small honorarium to themselves. They discussed their grievances with the management committee, without reaching any resolution. The three physicians and three surgeons therefore resigned early in 1868. Were these events to be seen purely as a local quarrel or did they have wider implications?"

An extended paper is to follow shortly before the session.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP to Sheilagh (Sheilagh.Holmes@warwick.ac.uk) by Friday 3 May if you plan to attend, and also let her know of any dietary requirements.

We look forward to seeing you there.

All best,

Kathryn
