Early Modern Forum
The Early Modern Forum, supported by an AHRC network grant, aims to establish an international network of scholars working on all aspects of early modern studies. Our formal network encompasses centres of early modern expertise at Warwick, the Sorbonne, Vanderbilt, Boston, The Huntington Library, University of Southern California and Yale. However, we welcome scholars from other institutions. Through running a combination of physical conferences / workshops and online events we aim to encourage discussion between both members of staff and postgraduate students, who will be able to pursue research themes and discussions with colleagues who might be physically remote from, but intellectually close to, them. Currently, the network is largely Anglophone. However, in future we intend to expand to include a wider range of European partners and to organise events in several languages. In a way, then, this bilingual (French & English) workshop, run at Warwick and centring on two buoyant strands of current research, represents the beginnings of a new strand to the Early Modern Forum’s activities.
Le « Early Modern Forum », subventionné par une bourse du « Arts & Humanities Research Council » (le Conseil britannique pour la recherche dans le domaine des arts et des humanités), vise à établir un réseau international de chercheurs dans tous les champs d’étude relatifs à l’époque moderne (du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle). Notre réseau réunit de façon formelle des centres de recherche spécialisés au sein des universités de Warwick, Paris (Sorbonne), Vanderbilt, Boston, la Californie méridionale et Yale, ainsi que de la Huntington Library, sans pour autant exclure des chercheurs attachés à d’autres instituts. Grâce à des colloques ou ateliers de recherche tant réels que virtuels, nous nous engageons à stimuler le dialogue entre professeurs et étudiants de recherche, afin que des spécialistes, parfois assez isolés dans leur propre cadre institutionnel, puissent se mettre en relation les uns avec les autres en dépit de la distance géographique. Jusqu’à présent, le réseau s’est avéré majoritairement anglophone. Nous envisageons cependant d’élargir notre réseau par de nouveaux partenariats européens comme par l’organisation d’initiatives multilingues. Aussi cet atelier bilingue autour de deux axes proéminents de la recherche actuelle se veut-il un nouveau départ pour notre « Forum des études modernes ».
