The HRC Humanities Book Launch will feature new publications by GHCC members
Professor David Lambert and GHCC alumnus Niels Boender books will be celebrated in the 2025 Humanities Book Launch. Hosted by the Humanities Research Centre, the annual book launch celebrates high-quality research carried out by staff and PGRs.
'Soldiers of Uncertain Rank'
Professor David Lambert's 'Soldiers of uncertain rank' was published in October 2024 by Cambridge University Press. Focusing on the role of the West India Regiments in the British Army, this comprehensive study explores the role of this heterogenous armed corps as they shaped Caribbean and global perspectives on slavery and freedom; racial difference; Britishness; savagery and civilisation; military service and heroism. The book was shortlisted for the 2025 Templer Prize, The Society for Army Historical Research.
'Homecoming Veterans in Literature and Culture'
Dr. Niels Boender's book, 'Homecoming Veterans in Literature and Culture' (2025) is part of the Warwick Series in the Humanities. Published with Routledge, this series highlights the conference and seminars sponsored by the HRC. This edited volume presents ‘homecoming’ as an analytical lens to better understand veterans' return and reintegration after conflict. Looking across times, places, and disciplines, the collection centres both historical and representational approaches to veterancy.
Congratulations on the book launch and new publications!
