Unit 3. Diaspora and Migration
This unit encourages the understanding of cross-cultural connections through the analysis of diaspora and migrations. It draws on both historical evidence related to migration (the movememnt of people) and diaspora (the communities of migrated peoples who have become integrated into new contexts and cultural environments but also maintain connections to their homeland). Both migration and diaspora have contemporary resonances, and are extremely valuable for the study of global connections.
The map below gives some idea of the global movement of people in multiple directions.
