Event: The Art of Travel: The History of Travel Guidebooks

Join Tony Wheeler (Engineering Science, 1969) alumnus and co-founder of the Lonely Planet, for his guest lecture titled 'The Art of Travel: The History of Travel Guidebooks'.

Hosted by Professor Tim Lockley, the lecture will be a guided tour through the history of travel writing, from guidebooks through to modern travel blogs, drawing on Tony's unique insight through his years at the helm of the Lonely Planet.

Tuesday 14^th May: 10:00-11:30 – Introduction to ImpactLink opens in a new window

This workshop is delivered by the Research Impact Team and provides a basic foundation of what research impact is and how this is supported at Warwick. The workshop will equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the UK research landscape and impact within it, alongside practical advice on how best to explore pathways to impact from different disciplines. It will incorporate a presentation from a Warwick researcher who has been involved in impact.

Thursday 16^th May: 10:00-11:30 – Measurement & Evaluation of ImpactLink opens in a new window

This workshop is delivered by the Research Impact Team and provides an overview of how to measure and evaluate activities in order to collect evidence of research impact. It will incorporate a presentation from a Warwick researcher who has been involved in evaluating the impact of their research.

This event will feature a lecture by Professor Francesco Paolo de Ceglia from the University of Bari, focusing on the topics covered in his latest book, 'Vampyr: storia naturale della resurrezione' [Vampyr: Natural History of Resurrection], published in 2023. Following the lecture, there will be a conversation between Professor de Ceglia and Professor Fabio Camilletti, concluding with a Q&A session.

The Yesu Persaud Centre for Caribbean Studies’annual  Ameena Gafoor Lecture will be given by H. E. Hon President Donald Ramotar with a talk on ‘Cheddi Jagan: Developmentalist and Political Visionary.’

This lecture will be held in Room S0.19, Social Sciences building, main campus, University of Warwick on Wednesday 22^nd May, 5.15pm. This is a free, in-person event, open to all and no need to book. Refreshments will be provided.

This workshop explores the interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to research and public engagement that Ephemeral EnsembleLink opens in a new window and Alison MenezesLink opens in a new window have developed in the UK and Latin America. It is designed for researchers, research students and research enablers who are interested in thinking about different methods to collaborate with groups beyond the university.

We aim to encourage your creative side, taking you through our design and development process and showing you how to use playful dialogues that empower collaborators. At the end of the workshop, we hope you will discover ways in which you might connect your own research, or your research leadership and enabling activities, with a broad range of community groups.
