Dr Victoria Leonard

Victoria Leonard is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Classical Studies, University of London. She was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities (CAMC) at Coventry University (2020-25). Victoria’s research focuses on the ancient Mediterranean, with a special interest in ancient and early medieval historiography, social network analysis and digital humanities, and gendered violence.


Victoria’s publication profile includes the monograph In Defiance of History. Orosius and the Unimproved Past (2022), and a second monograph under contract with CUP. She co-edited the volume Bodily Fluids in Antiquity (2021) a Special Issue of the Journal BICS, Orosius Through the Ages (2025), and her most recent journal article was published in Transactions for the Royal Historical Society (2023). Her award-winning impact initiatives include writing for audiences beyond academia the The Guardian, THE, and The Church Times, and she has contributed to BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking programme on pioneering women in classics
