Course schedule

Session 1 (8thJanuary 2024, 15:00-16:30 GMT)

Preparation

  • Study the material on Latin rules of reading and pronunciation (to be provided)
  • Go through the list of Latin parts of speech (to be provided)

Lesson grammar

  • Course overview: what to expect of this course and what is expected from you
  • Noun basics: gender, number, declension, cases
  • Verb basics: person, number, mood, tenses
  • Sentence structure: subject and object, parts of speech in the sentence, usual word order (and why it can change)

Session 2 (9thJanuary 2024, 15:00-16:30 GMT)

Preparation

  • Revise the material from the previous session
  • Look through the grammar reference tables (to be provided)

Lesson grammar

  • Cases and their key uses
  • The paradigm of a noun; tips on identifying the noun form
  • Basic verb forms and their key uses
  • The paradigm of a verb; recognising verb forms; common irregular verbs

Session 3 (10thJanuary 2024, 15:00-16:30 GMT)

Preparation

  • Revise the material from the previous session
  • Study the vocabulary list of adjectives and prepositions (to be provided)

Lesson grammar

  • Adjectives: declension, cases, comparison.
  • Prepositions; expressions of time, place, and space
  • Direct and indirect questions and commands
  • Double Nominative and Accusative

Session 4 (11thJanuary 2024, 15:00-16:30 GMT)

Preparation

Revise the material on sentence structure and cases

Lesson grammar

  • Clauses: relative, purpose, result and time
  • Grammatical constructions: Accusative with Infinitive, Nominative with Infinitive

Session 5 (12thJanuary 2024, 15:00-16:30 GMT)

Preparation

Revise the material from the previous session and the use of cases

Lesson grammar

  • Use of participles
  • Grammatical constructions: Absolute Ablative
  • Next steps: further learning (getting more complex grammar, acquiring vocabulary)
