Further Awards for John Nichols Scholars
Members of the CSR – past and present – have been recognised by both the Modern Language Association of America (MLA) and by the Times Literary Supplement (TLS). Dr Elizabeth Goldring, Dr Faith Eales, Professor Elizabeth Clarke, and Dr Jayne Elisabeth Archer have been awarded the 2015 MLA Prize for a Scholarly Edition for their work as General Editors of John Nichols’s The Progresses and Public Processions of Queen Elizabeth I: A New Edition of the Early Modern Sources (Oxford University Press, 2014). In its award citation, the MLA described this work as providing ‘everything the scholar could wish for and more’ and predicted that it ‘will be the standard reference for the sixteenth-century English court for many years to come’. In addition, John Nichols’s The Progresses and Public Processions of Queen Elizabeth I: A New Edition of the Early Modern Sources was last week selected by the TLS as one of its ‘Books of the Year’ for 2015. This five-volume publication is the primary output of the CSR-based John Nichols Research Project, to which more than forty scholars – many of them based, or trained, at Warwick – contributed as section editors and translators.
