Communications

The atmosphere in the Centre is friendly and informal and it is easy to see individual members of staff. All staff post ‘office hours’ on the doors of their rooms when they will certainly be available, and you can always set up appointments at other times by e-mailing them. If the individual you are seeking is not available, you may leave a message on his or her voice-mail, phone again later, use e-mail, or else contact the Centre Administrator, Jayne Sweet, on 24587. It is essential that we have up-to-date information on your address, phone number and e-mail so that we can contact you at anytime; please ensure that you have completed and returend the student record card sent to you by the Centre Administrator and please remember to inform her of any subsequent changes.

Study/Research Spaces

The Centre’s students have their own workroom, H4.50, which is off the Graduate Space on the fourth floor of the Humanities Extension Block. This houses the Centre’s own collection of books on the Renaissance and also DVD material, projection / TV screen. Also off the Graduate Space is a shared-space computing room (H4.47) with networked PCs available on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are also three bookable hot desks located in a PGR office off the graduate space on the fourth floor (H4.54). Use the calendar to check out the availability of the desks, and book your slot for up to five consecutive working days. https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/cadre/current_students/hotdesks/454/?selectedResourceId=094d43f54fff975f01501885d8b42b0e&start=060519&view=week

On the first floor of the University Library there is a postgraduate reading room, which is reached via a code lock. Apply at the Enquiry Desk for further details. There are also a limited number of library carrels (small personal study areas) available in the Library. It is important to apply at the very start of Term 1. Joint applications are strongly encouraged and it is likely that most carrels will be allocated to more than one student in order to optimise their use. On the ground floor of the Library there is another computer cluster, with 150 machines. Access is available 24 hours a day, using your library card for entry. A Help Desk is available during office hours.

The Postgraduate Hub on the ground floor of Senate House (card access) is a space that brings together postgraduates from across Warwick, where you can: find meeting rooms for group-work and collaborative study; find support for your dissertation through the Dissertation Station; find support for your studies and future career plans through events and drop-ins. It is currently open 9am to midnight (see website for holiday opening). For more information go to: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/pghub/postgraduate_hub/ or follow them on Twitter at @WarwickPgHub

University Library

All students should register as users of the Library as soon as possible. Sophisticated systems are available in the Library for conducting literature information searches, which are invaluable for research students and you will be taken through these on the induction programme in Term 1. The Specialist Subject librarian for the Centre, is Katherine Waters (Katherine.Waters@warwick.ac.uk) and this staff member also participates in the Graduate Programme SSLC. If you feel that there are any essential books that are 'missing' from the library's collection, do put in a request via this webpage https://warwick.ac.uk/services/library/using/bookform/ .

Students should also be aware of special library facilities, such as the Wolfson Research Exchange (a dedicated space for research students) http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/using/libspaces/research-exchange/, the Learning Grid (available twenty-four-hours a day in a development occupying a space of about 1350 square metres on two floors in University House, with capacity for approximately 300 students) and of the special set of library resources dedicated to Renaissance Studies. For these resources, see: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/subjects/arts/renaissance/
