URSS in the Centre for the Study of Renaissance
For over 15 years the CSR has supported URSS students working on projects during the summer vacation. We are looking to recruit one or two URSS students for the summer vacation 2026, and interested students (who will probably graduate in June 2026, though particularly keen second years will be considered) are encouraged to contact me. Details of the scheme are here. Please note that the closing date is Friday 6th February 2026.
This year we are advertising a particular co-supervised project on a rose manual, De Rosa et partibus eius (Seville, 1540), by the Spanish physician and botanist Nicolás Monardes.

We also consider student-led projects and can help you find a supervisor if you fill in this EOI by 23rd January.
The summer URSS internship would offer the chance to work with CSR Staff on the project, for up to four weeks in between June and September. Students interested in the Renaissance who are planning to continue their studies at MA level in this area would be ideal, but students still making up their mind about further study would also be considered. Of the eight students who have worked with Teresa Grant on this scheme, all but one has gone on to further study in the field. PhD students have often previously held URSS studentships.
It would be an advantage to have done Medieval or Renaissance modules in any department but, again, other experience in this area of study would be perfectly valid.
