The Churches Conservation Trust
 
The Churches Conservation Trust is the leading charity conserving England’s most beautiful and historic churches, which are no longer needed for regular worship. It promotes public enjoyment of these churches, and encourages their use as an educational and community resource. It operates nationally from a friendly modern office in the heart of the city of London, and also has a number of regional offices.
 
Volunteer Education Assistants
 
The CCT is happy to offer voluntary work experience at its head office in West Smithfield, London, to one Warwick BA art history student for all or part of the Easter Vacation each year, and likewise to one Warwick BA art history student for all or part of the Summer Vacation. It will reimburse all travel expenses incurred in your journeys to and from work (within a reasonable distance and by public transport as far as is possible).

The CCT is also happy to offer a number of voluntary internships for Warwick art history students who have recently graduated. These may be started at any time and can last as long as the graduate wishes (as long as his/her performance is satisfactory and the experience continues to be mutually beneficial). The minimum internship is 2 weeks.

Placements at the CCT provide a great opportunity to be part of a team that cares for beautiful historic buildings, helping to make them accessible and bring them alive for learners. It would also look great on your CV!

Purpose:

To provide administrative support to the CCT Education Officer on a regular basis

Responsible to:

CCT Education Officer

Number of hours:  

Minimum 7 hours at a stretch

Would suit:

Student seeking experience of education work within heritage sector, who likes working with children!
 
Key duties
  • Develop and maintain manual and electronic filing systems
  • Carry out routine filing, archiving and retrieval
  • Fulfil book orders and maintain records in Excel spreadsheet
  • Undertake research, using a variety of media, including the internet
  • Input and edit records on the CCT’s database and ensure contact information is up to date
  • Answer telephone, email and letter communications
  • Fulfil requests for Information for Teachers booklets & Exploring Churches books and maintain stock
  • Proof read documents from time to time
  • Organise workshops as directed by the Education Officer
  • Undertake mail shots
  • Work within existing administrative systems and procedures as defined by the Resources and ICT Manager
  • The assistant will carry out other duties within the scope of this job description as requested by the Education Officer
 
Person Specification
 
The CCT is looking for someone with:
  • Enthusiasm, energy and flexibility
  • Strong administration skills
  • Thorough familiarity with Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel and use of the internet
  • Experience in the management of data
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and self motivated
  • A practical approach to problem-solving
  • Demonstrable commitment to quality with an eye for detail
  • Experience of structuring business letters/correspondence
  • An interest in the work of the Trust

Immediately after the deadline (see below), Vicky will forward all of the applications received to the CCT, and the CCT Education Officer will decide. Her decision is final.
 
If you are chosen, you will be asked to an informal meeting to discuss your possible role in greater depth, in order to guarantee that the experience is mutually beneficial.
